Work Package 2: Dissemination of the project

Background and objectives
Information gathered through the EpiSouth network needs to be disseminated to the international audience. The general objective of Work Package 2 (WP2) is to disseminate the information produced by the Project to the participating countries and to those who need to know through an ad hoc created web-site, an electronic bulletin, the participation to scientific events, and the organization of the press coverage for the final project conference.

Methods
The EpiSouth web-site is a platform for the dissemination of the information related to each of the WP included in the EpiSouth Project. The WP leaders are responsible for the information gathered within their WP, while the leader of WP2 coordinates the content of the web-site and ensure that an ongoing process of data renewal is in place. Before being published in the web-site, information gathered through the WPs’ activities undergoes a process of intellectual and scientific digesting to homogenize the materials and transform them in information easily understandable and usable by all interested people. The web-site also publishes relevant guidelines, documents, and policies on topics of interest for the project and makes available useful links with national and international organisations. The web-site is structured in two areas.
- A public portal devoted to the dissemination of the information collected and the results generated by the EpiSouth network to all interested people who visit the site.
- An access- restricted Network Working Area as a permanent communication tool to support the communication among project participants. In particular, this area is devoted to the storage and sharing of documents and data, the discussion of relevant topics through a forum-based system, the management of a common calendar of activities, and tracking of people involved in the project. This restricted area is available to the EpiSouth participants via a secure web-based interface accessed by mean of a personal username and password. Different users can access the system with different functionalities according to their specific user profile.
The EpiSouth web-site publicised by the partner organizations and links to it are made available from other appropriate web-sites.
The EpiSouth electronic bulletin, summarising the information presented in the web-site, is issued at least quarterly. The bulletin is sent by e-mail to selected institutions in the participating and non-participating EU and neighbouring countries, as well as to European and international institutions (EC, ECDC, WHO, etc.), and to people who register for this service in the web-site. Information on its publication is given in national and European bulletins (e.g. Eurosurveillance).
Conferences, congresses and workshops suitable for disseminating the project’s results are identified through an accurate search of such type of events in Europe and Mediterranean countries.

Expected results
WP2 will produce the EpiSouth web-site, portal for communicable disease epidemiology, communication and training in Southern Europe and Mediterranean Countries. The web-site will be both an output of the project and the mean by which most of the results will be disseminated to the international audience. Moreover, the EpiSouth electronic bulletin will summarise the data presented in the web-site and will reach selected institutions in the participating and non-participating EU and neighbouring countries, as well as European and international institutions and people who register for this service. Finally, the participation to conferences, congresses, and workshops and the organization of the press coverage for the final EpiSouth conference will enable to disseminate the EpiSouth results to both a scientific audience and the general public.
